We’ve all been there — you get a new pair of rugby boots and can’t wait to wear them. You try them on and… oh no… they’re stiff, tight and there’s no give in them.
So how do you break in a pair of rugby boots? Or any boots! Here’s my unique method.
How To Break In Rugby Boots
I’ve found that my fat feet always feel a little claustrophobic in new rugby boots, particularly my new Nike Tiempo’s.
To break them in, there are a few methods you can use, including:
- Wearing them around the house
- Using a wet cloth to dampen the boots
- Stretch tight areas with your hands
- Gradually increase use and they’ll shape to your feet
- And my favourite: Putting a pair of socks inside them overnight.
Using Socks to Stretch Rugby Boots
Here’s my tried and tested method!
I recently discovered this method after buying two pairs of new rugby boots which were fine length-wise, from a fitting perspective, but my feet felt claustrophobic and I they had no give.
Rather than doing the manual work of stretching the boots myself, I decided to squeeze a pair of skiing socks inside the boot and leave them in overnight. In the morning, the boots had stretched sufficiently and I felt a lot more comfortable in my boots.
In fact, I wore them that weekend.
So there’s my method! What do you use?
