Adidas RS15 Avaglide: First Women’s Specific Rugby Boots

Despite offering many unisex rugby boots, Adidas has now officially launched its first ever pair of rugby boots built specifically for women – the RS15 Avaglide.

Ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, world-renowned superstar Ilona Maher has been part of the team designing the boots, alongside others such as Jess Breach and Manaé Feleu.

I guess I need to update my Best Women’s Rugby Boots list!

What Makes the RS15 Avaglide Different?

The new boots are an updated take on the RS15 rugby boots, redesigned with features that better fit the shape and needs of female athletes.

Some of the key upgrades include a new heel structure, leather support inserts, and a moulded sock liner for extra comfort and support.

A Game-Changing Step for Women’s Rugby Boots

With the rapid growth of women’s rugby, Adidas found that there was a clear need to create boots tailored to female players.

The project began by combining player feedback with anatomical data to pinpoint where improvements were needed.

Unlike typical product cycles, this one took nearly three years – driven by the rise of professionalism in the women’s game and a deeper understanding of how to support female athletes more effectively.

Details

Redesigned Heel Support: The most significant update is a reworked heel cup featuring a new “waterfall” heel system, offering added cushioning and a more supportive structure tailored to the typically narrower female heel shape.

Enhanced Comfort: A denser foam lining runs down the full length of the heel for improved comfort and fit, especially at the back of the boot.

Improved Fit at the Forefoot: To accommodate broader forefeet, leather stretch zones have been added to the sides. These adapt to lateral movement and reduce pressure points, helping to prevent discomfort and wear.

Stability for Movement: A moulded sock liner improves stability during quick direction changes, addressing common overpronation caused by wider hips and stride patterns in female players.

Smart Design Features: Asymmetrical lacing provides a more secure fit, while a textured toe box increases control and surface area when kicking.
